Picked this up at a local supermarket in june and it has been growing amazingly ever since. Leaves are thick and dark green, purple tinged fibers closer to the leaf edges as they emerge from the center of the stump???? Is it a dwarf cavendish? i bought it for $ 5.99!

Mine is smaller and looks different.
Is it some bushy clematis at the foreground?

I'm not sure exactly what banana it is: the tag did not say as it was from a supermarket and the bar code on the bottom of the pot just read "musa sp."
Yes it is wild Clematis Virginiana (aka Devil's darning needles, Virgin's Bower, Old Man's Beard) growing in the background. It is everywhere here, lovely smelling in August and September into October. I have soooooooo much of it all around the grounds. i love it. A lot of people hack it away as it can become very invasive if not contianed and trimmed and groomed. Whatever the banana is , I love it!

Mike very nice banana. I`ve had a few of these dwarf cavendish bananas. When they are young they have red bloches on their leaves and as they get older they lose this to full green. Are you digging it up for the winter?

Thats a smoking deal Mike-
I have found these to be quite happy indoors in a south window
and if temps inside are over 70F it grows quite nicely.

Have any idea fo what minimum temps could be for them?? The mother has already sprouted two nice sized pups in the pot too!

I think most Bananas will begin black spotting once temps
hit the 40s,esp if it hasn't been cool recently.....
much more apparent in the 30s(F).
The actual damage will vary(be less) if there is any
overhead protection...porch overhangs,trees etc.
