Eatin' crow

W and I started a custom two weeks ago, sort of by accident. Two weeks ago--seemingly an eternity--we dozed in tank tops on the backyard beach. One week ago we posed for a photograph in the same position but buried in snow, drinking wine and smiling. For fun we posed in the same chairs last evening, again with wine. You can see the corpse of my larger Butia in the far right (killed in summer, not by cold). To prove her point that exotic plants should live in pots and come in for the winter, W briefly brought out her traveller's palm to pose with us.

So, does anyone else have crow to eat? Care to confess your blunders, with or without photos?

Wow! I was afraid to ask about her, given that you were as cold as Oklahoma last week.
Put a crown on her and take a photo!

One of the super high quality (not) thermo cubes went bad in one of the washy huts, so that's trying to die on me right now. I guess time will tell on that one, I've done all I can do, or should say all I'm going to do. There's plenty of palms waiting to jump in it's grave in the greenhouse though. I know you want pictures! It hasn't been sunny lately to get any today might be the day 😉

Last year I killed off about 5 sereona's with over protecting with hay, bad move they got wet and rotted out.

Hopefully the unprotected needles and giant minor come out with just some damage, time will tell.

Sounds too optimistic for those who are planing to plant their palms into the ground this spring! 😈

I'm with W on that... :argue:

Congrats on being good sports despite the carnage :salute:

I don't know if this classifies for your topic, but we had a massive windstorm overnight Saturday.

On Sunday, I noticed the 10 kW wind turbine's two 6kW inverters not running...odd.
Contractor arrived today and announced "both inverters are fried/burnt up".
So turbine brakes were employed, both inverters were disconnected and packed up for warranty, shipping back to Power One (whom I now affectionately call Power None) in California.

Nobody has any idea what happened because the software on the turbine turns the blades away from wind direction when "damaging velocity" is recorded, but thank God we're insured. The investigation has begun.

Last year there was an inverter "blip" that caused us two months downtime. This may exceed that. But since all the turbine production went to the grid, downtime doesn't affect our residence or other building's power. Just can't produce/sell energy to the utility, i.e. payback on capitol cost.

Erik,

I can understand your loss. Out of the palms I have planted only the Sabal minor and Trachys have survived. I should plant some other hardy ones too.

That is super aggravating Barb, this is the time of the year they should be kickin ass too. They should just send you two new inverters and a tech to climb up and see what's up with the braking system. Or they should at least pay up for the energy you would have produced.

Sorry to hear that 😥

Thanks Bill, agree with you.
I'm just throwing up my arms and saying "hey, I'm the customer...fix it...anybody".

Seems I'll be left eating crow (to stay on Erik's topic).
So much for environmental awareness and enthusiasm to go green.
I don't even turn my computer off at night anymore, to hell with it. :confused2:
