The first picture of date palms is magnificent, with the balance of photos and captions detailing the demise of the Salton Sea.
Sad indeed that even the robust Tilapia fish are now dying.

If you drink, don't drive. Don't even putt.
I'm not that familiar with the Salton Sea... Is it getting saltier (is that why the fish are dying?).. I remember that someone had suggested that Coconuts could have a chance in that area, but I never looked up the climate!
Thanks for that link. It does look like that area has seen better days.
Paul,
I haven't been there so I might be confusing it with another California lake. My feeble recollection is that rivers flowing into it are now diverted for irrigation and municipal use (and perhaps a tiny bit for golf courses...) so the remaining water is evaporating and becoming saltier. --Erik
I've been by it and some places there are very beautiful. 8)

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

I think someone is always saying Coconuts could grow(somewhere) there- "have a chance" -that area has beautiful winter and EARLY spring weather
and even the heat is wonderful,if you have an I.V. of water hooked up to you.
The area does see freezing weather and even my friends Pachypodium geayi and/or P.lamaerii can have the tops die,so I think Coconuts would be
a no grow.

Our friends down there had a nice sized papaya tree in thier yard but died the winter we visited them. It got down to 18f but that was very rare. Normal winter lows there is 40f or warmer.
