In mid July 2008 I posted a thread about watering a potted plam correctly and the problems I was having with my Hyorphorbe Lagenicaulis (bottle palm). Things are not any better with my bottle palm. I have had this palm for about 2 years ol and it was just repoptted in July 2008. It has thrown several new fronds this summer but they have all emerged and then turned from a gorgeous green and red to brown on the edges and then slowly the new frond turns brown and crusty and nasty and then becomes a shriveled up dried out piece palm frond (see picure #2 below so you know I am not making this up).
The palm was fertilized in June 2008. I use an Osmocote 20-20-20, granular for a 3 month feeding. After the repotting in mid July 2008, I have now hit the palm with a systemic granular and just last week sprayed with Garden Safe 3 in 1, fungicide, insecticide and miticide.
I have clipped my palm down to where it only has 2 fronds now with a third emerging but the oldest frond is completely nasty now and it needs to be clipped off (see for yourself).
I need opinions on what the heck is up with my bottle? Any thoughts?
Heres where this thread gets ugly. Check this frond out. HELP.

thanks for the response. I did fertilize on June 1 with a Jacks 20-20-20 water soluble fertilizer that has boron .02%, copper .05%, iron .10%, magnese .05%, molybdenum .0009% and zinc at .05%. sorry I did not mention that earlier.

Hmm I it possible you have to much fertilizer. Its easy to over fertilize a plant in a pot. I have killed many plants by doing that, the salts build up in the pot and burn the plant. Now I just a get a weak fertilizer with micros every 6 months. I use the 20 20 20 stuff out doors.

I never fertilize at full strength for just that reason. I probably go 1/2 of whats recommended. I may just buy some distilled water and water the container several times.

Wish I could help, but my bargain bin Bottle Palm is now dead as a rock. 🙁
I kept my Hyophorbe too cool, and even tying a dry cleaning bag over it for the HIGH humidity it craves didn't help.
Overwatering probably created the spear pull on mine.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for yours to make it.

It seems almost like it has been burnt by something. I don't believe it's a deffiency.
