These palms have seen two winters near Victoria, BC. After talking to different Brahea owners, they told me that Brahea edulis is a tougher palm than Washingtonia. The Brahea armata is hardier than B. edulis but grows slower. This is an image of two specimens on Vancouver Island.

There should be more palms at English Bay.

Larry Cole has a selection of crated palms. A C. humilis is used to compare the frond colour of a silvery Butia & Brahea armata.

I has been two years since Larry trucked over palms. He still has many Trachys (some doubles or triples), Brahea edulis, Brahea armata & C. humilis palms. Several Butias do remain.

His Trachys are cheap for the region but his other palms run at Trachy prices you'd see for a given size of trunk in Victoria area nurseries. I'll give you his contact information so you can ask him. I saw impressive specimens listed at about $500. You can email Jeff in Victoria has he could comment on Larry's palms. Jeff has two palms from Larry's.

Cheers
