Will it need protection?

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

Todd ... Your Queen in the background seems to be doing great. 😀
That's a fine Bismarkia! Has it put on much growth or is it still putting down roots?

Cheers, Barrie.

It will need protection for a few years depending on how low we get.

Barrie it has put out 6 fronds this summer. Queen is over 10 FT tall and putting out new fronds all the time.

Laaz that Bismarkia looks great. It should have enough room to grow by the looks of the pics. I`m hoping to get a couple 15gal Bizzies next spring.

John a buddy of mine picked this up as a 15 gal last summer down in FL for me. It was $29 from the nursery, much better than the outrageous prices for a 15 gal through mail order. The roots are very finicky and really do not like to be moved.

Mike it's one of my favorites as well, just have to see how hardy it can become.

Barrie that Queen palm is the one I cut down to a stump this spring after I fried it with Christmas lights... 🙁 🙄

I do recall you having an issue with the Xmas lites !!! Those little buggers can kick out some heat. I tried a string of 25 in an enclosure for an Ensete last winter. 20 minutes later, dang ... it was 80°F . I wound up only needing 3 lights on that string and even then with spare use.
Which citrus species are in the photo immediately behind your Bismarkia? They are lookin' healthy too! 😀

Cheers, Barrie.

Laaz,
your yard looks great. It would be awesome to be able to grow a bismarkia.
I will have to settle for a brahea armata for that blue colour.

Todd, your palms, cycads, and lemons are so healthy looking...and oh, that N/South Carolina temp and sunshine...
fabulous yard.

Great price! At that price, I'm surprised more people don't grow them...but I suppose one acre of yard is minimum for 9-foot long mature leaves!

If THAT Bizzie were in a nursery in British Columbia, the pricetag would read $350 to $450 ...
Guess they get more valuable with every mile heading north 😕

BTW are the dogs in your "good books" again?
No pics of them for a while.

Dogs are doing great Barb. I'll have to get some more pics soon. Here are a few of Athena with her Halloween costume on... Brutus doesn't play nice with kids, so he was locked in the house...

Laaz no one is going to touch anything in your yard. I also have a Rotti and she looks after things when I`m gone. Nice pics.
