Has anybody else done the ole PineApple from the top method. I started this one about a year and a half ago. It has not put out a fruit yet, but I really couldn't care less as I just like the way it looks regardless of fruiting.

I have. Mine was about three years old and never grew a pineapple. Something ate the roots
and it died. I read something about putting apple peels in a bag and then put the pineapple in there to force it to flower. ❓

I have tried once. It did start to root but never survived.

Yours looks very good.

You don't have to be crazy to grow palms in Alberta..... But it helps

Yep, got a tiny dwarf pineapple growing, it was the size of a lemon when I bought it. I am going to start a normal one this spring.

Not the pot I was expecting........

There was a very similar thread on another forum recently, and I posted a couple photos of my 2nd-generation pineapples begining to fruit for this year. I will post the photos here as well:

Every time I buy a pineapple, I cut the top and root it. Right now, I have 7 plants in the ground and three more in pots fully rooted and ready to plant. They make great gifts for other plant-loving friends.

The key to getting a cut top to root well is to dry it out for a couple days before putting it in a pot containing a rich, organic, well-drained soil mix. It also really needs warm temperatures and ample water to do well.

The plants typically take at least two years to fruit from the time they are cut off the fruit and rooted. Here in Miami, these grow quite well outdoors... and the fruit that they produce is way better than anything you can buy in a store. My third-generation suckers from last year are doing well, but I don't expect them to fruit until next year.

What do you mean when your saying cutting the top? Do you cut the actual pineapple?
