...if I have to cut 97 leaves off, yes. 😆
When do you think it'll happen?
Please don't say 20 years... 😆

Hi Barb . I was wondering what type of palm is the one that is furthest away in pic?
Keith
Hi Barb,
I think this coming year you'll see the first signs of a trunk.......not much but 'trunk-ish'. 😀

19 more years. j/k
I would say 10? In 5 they will start to rise. 😀
Nice garden shot! 8)

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.
-Aaron-
if you water rostrata they will grow! 😆 ...........Magnolia too.
Looks like a good 3 to 4 feet of trunk from 2004 to 2011.......not bad.

Hi Keith,
That farthest palm, if I recall, is a Washingtonia filifera x robusta (filibusta?)
The other is apparently a "straight" Washy filifera.
Or so I've been told 😆
Don't ask Aaron how "good" I am at ID'ing Washies...he's still laughing from my last attempts from AZ, CA.
He was worried he'd have to get out the hand puppets so I'd understand.

Ah, that's music to my ears...er...a....eyes.

Hmmm...probably so I don't get too disappointed, huh? 😉

I'd be happy with 3-4 feet (clear trunk) in 7 years, I think.
And if you STOP watering your magnolia, you'll have more room for the yuccas. :booty:

Thats kind of an odd place for the magnolia isnt it? Does that mean the mag can take more dry ground then you think, or do the yuccas take more moisture then we assume?

the mag was planted there to block our view from our neighbors house.........we can look into each others house without the mag. 😉
Most Yuccas don't seem phased by excess moisture as long as they are not sitting in a puddle of water or in saturated soil conditions..........there are a few species which are more sensitive (ie brevifolia, and other western forms).

I was going to say the same thing as Tim about the watering-if you want them
to grow-water when its warm/hot out-esp the Washys,which- BTW- look more like Filifera.
They are small to make that call but the one in front does appear to have smaller thorns.
Water those Washys this summer but don't forget-they will get big fast in the heat
and still need to be covered next winter-easy to forget when spring fever hits!

the one in front does appear to have smaller thorns
and fewer filaments.
Re the thorns...the only difference is whether you need LARGE versus MEDIUM bandaids.
The buggers went through my gloves this Fall when I was tying them up. 😡
They're planted in the hottest spot I've got...
Trying to get this look: 😆

Jim, your winter protection will be fun to watch...yours will be towering over the second floor in no time.
It'll take you two months to build its protection ... every Fall. :hello2:
