Here are some of the pictures from my desert.
This is one of the pads of my Opuntia basilaris v. basilaris that was vandalized last summer. I was surprised by the amount of growth since the pad was put in the ground last July.
The two Yuccas that I planted bare root last spring and died back to the ground at the end of last winter.
I missed the earlier blooms on my Opuntia fragilis
The cylyndropuntia whipplei that I got this spring has taken root and is just beginning to send out new pads, while c. viridiflora shows no sign of new growth yet.

Looks good !! is that stupff survive outside?

Everything has survived at least one winter outside without protection except the 2 chollas. I will be providing some form of winter protection for them even though they are from Zone 4b/5.
Over the past 2 years I have had some problem with the Opuntia polychroma. I think that it has been having problems with too much snow cover and a GD dandelion that just won't die.
The desert area is designed to have snow drift in as long as the winds are from the North and West. So far that is what we have been getting. This summer we have had an unusually large number of winds from the East which has really interfered with my plans for the backyard palm bed. If this continues this winter, the yuccas will be affected.

Cylindropuntia Whipplei-- 2 of the three stems on the cutting are starting new pads 8)
Cylindropuntia viridiflora--
The pic is out of focus but there are several buds on the cutting.
Now if they will just survive the winter. I have them in an area that is more protected than the yuccas were.
