Hi Guys,

Been too busy lately and missing the forum! Just wanted to share some photos from Joshua Tree National Park, from a recent trip to the Coachella Valley in Southern California last month. I'm sure many of you will recognize the plants, which include: a Washy Filifera oasis, Nolina parryi, Mohave yucca, yucca brevifolia and, I think, some optunia (perhaps our cactus experts can help me with an i.d.).

Also, check out the two photos of my y. rostrata which has been under cover since mid November. Uncovered last week, and I'm pretty happy with how it looks. I did notice some mold/fungus, for which I applied a fungicide. While it's not what it was in the fall, I think it might have a good shot in the spring-but spring will tell more, of course. Thanks for looking!

Thanks for the great pics Duncan...ah, that magnificent park and its contents!

Super rostrata protection job!
Mine in the cold building look only very slightly better.

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

Thanks guys!

Man I would love to live there, it's so me! 8)

Cameron, no seeds-I definitely saw some laying around the brevifolias, should have snagged some. You should have seen the plants for sale at "The Living Desert" in Palm Desert. You guys, we need to special order from that place 😯 ! Beautiful, big and cheap yuccas: rostrata, elata, mojave. Gorgeous big and cheap filiferas. Aaron, will try to get some more pics up.

Thanks Barb and Jim on the rostrata-was hoing for a little better, but truthfully expecting worse-so we'll see :dontknow: .

Take care guys.

I think when you have to cover stuff for a long time the cold and moisture
together ends up discoloring it-I need to address this in my little cactus
house as the one layer of plastic gets condensation and trips on the plants.

This combined with constant refreezing leaves some of them looking behaggered at best.

My Parryi and Havardiana have water sitting in the crowns all winter-but their tough!

I'm glad they're enjoying the desert.
That skull rock is so unusual!

If they're keen to do a desert garden this spring, one of my yuccas just may walk over there.

Yes...and then maybe a Palm... 😀

Hey Guys,

Aaron, thanks for the I.D.! Hope the plants are wintering well since the early blast.

Tim, I've got some nice little yuccas germinating from the seeds you sent me (various hybrids of, I believe, elata, filimentosa, pallida, thompsoniana and flaccida) . I've had great success so far. I'll post some updated photos soon. Thanks again!

Take care all!

Duncan
