I must've broken one hell of a big mirror a few years ago (ha ha), and all s**t broke loose the last few months.
Thanks for asking where the heck I went.
Suffice to say my life is getting back to normal, but the plants have been neglected. Lost a few too 'coz I didn't care enough.
It'll take me a month to catch up to all your great postings and pictures, and get to know the new folks (Welcome!!!)
In the meantime, I'll post all these pics here (you'll be sorry you asked!!) 😆
Remember that bottle palm spear last November? Well it finally opened 8 months later, and a 2-foot long spear is following it.
Yup, it really was 90 F (32C)...hotter than the hubs of ....
Musa basjoo likes the heat, but needs watering daily. AAARGH!
Desert Rose (Adenium) has held its flowers for weeks, with more coming, very showy for a young plant.
Dioon Spinulosum really took off in this summer's heat. Fronds nearly 3 feet long.
Lavender was stunning this year.
OH, FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE!!!! I FORGOT TO LOAD ALL THE OTHER PICTURES.
(I don't mind getting older but I sure miss my mind!)
More later!
Thanks, folks.
Barb

Good to have you back Barb. 😀 We were getting worried.
So was I, Jay. But as they say, s**t happens.
It's all good now.
Gawd, I couldn't even remember my password it's been so long!
BTW congrats on the PN product offerings. I'll be ordering a shirt or two soon.
Barb
...and more pics tomorrow (you'll be sorry you missed me, ha ha) 😆 😆

I hear yeah, I haven't had time really to do much gardening at all this summer.
And thanks Barb, I'm sure you will be happy with a new PN t-shirt. 😀
-Jay
Speaking of not much time to garden, I'll start the rest of the pics with the fatalities...and there were quite a few.
Deader than a rock are starfruit, coffee, jasmine, both calamondin orange, ficus benjamina, and two palms whose names escape me right now.
Strange that the Wollemia nobilis hasn't yet flushed this year. Last year it came on gangbusters. Still looks OK though.
Still waiting for Flower One on the Bird of Paradise. Obviously takes a few years.
The Washy filiferas (from JOHN) are stunning!!!! Love their hairy fronds. Sure love the heat, but they need more water.
Also from JOHN, the Agave, Dune Aloe and young Joshua Tree grew like crazy. Nice blue on the joshua.
The 2 blue hesper palm seedlings are getting their first true leaves.
The CIDP seems to like its new deep pot...er....a garbage can. More room for water in this heat!
This Echeveria has never bloomed; the other two bloom each year on tall spikes.
The Dioon edule did bugger-all this year...Nada. 😥
This ... (oh what the heck is it called?) palm is really getting stout in the ground.
The ponytail palm's razor sharp leaves are deadly. Just touching against it leads to multiple blood-dots on hands/legs!
This sick Sago has had coffee grounds, safer's soap, sun-to-shade, shade-to-sun. Finally I cut the bugger's fronds off to see if it'll come back. My other sago's doing great.
The yucca rostrata (or rigida...or whatever someone called it) seems to like being in the ground (wait till winter!)
😈
The Papyrus is pitiful; all the tall fronds with their beautiful little pods/flowers fell over into the pond in a storm.
Just looks like a bunch of sod growing in the pond 😆
Chinese fan palm's tallest fronds broken by high winds, lots of new fronds starting.
This guy almost didn't make it through the heatwave.
Lost most of this palm (name??? 🙄 forgotten again!) but cymbidium orchid spears are coming for winter flowers.
The 3 Triangle palms are growing slower than last year.
I just love this Spindle palm, almost bulletproof, with a nice spear coming...deserves a larger pic.
The 32 yr old Jade looks tired.
Other sago's gettin' attacked.
The chamaerops humilis is as blue as the joshua tree, but my camera never captures it well. From Barrie.
The zamia furfuracea that almost croaked during winter is STILL sulking. It oughta grow a new leaf in, oh, say, 2015 😆
The zamia vasquezii that got eaten by grasshoppers last year managed to regrow those leaves, and that's it.
It'll never be like Steve's...he's GETTING 3 CONES ON HIS!!!! 😀
The one remaining Panzhihuaensis that I started from seed last year looks OK.
The four Cycas debaoensis that I started from seed. Haven't done much this year, couldn't give them enough shade w no wind!
The Hyacinth Bean (Dolichos lablab) were again stunning this year, scrambling up string to the top of the posts.
I was going to throw out this sick Pachypodium lamerei, until Steve said to repot it last year. Great tip. It's doing fine now.
Poop...forgot to take a picture of the big Trachy that went in the ground this spring (and is staying in the ground)
😕
Now I can try and catch up on everyone else's posts.
Cheers.
Barb

Barb that`s looking great. All of your plants are looking excellent. That yucca rigida x is liking it`s new home. Are those W. filifera planted or just in pots?

Okanagan Palms and Tropicals

The W.filifera are planted in a gravelly area on the south side (kinda where you told me to put them).
But I have to remember to water them as the sprinkler doesn't quite reach.
Not a good pic, but here they are:
Everything's taken quite a beating this year with the heat and wind.
I love them despite what the weather did!

I think this guy enjoyed being out of a pot for the first time in 32 years!
Grew 3 or 4 fronds despite a whole summer of neglect.

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

I think we are all shocked to see that you have planted your trachy. Looks very happy in the ground. 8)

It does look happy, Aaron.
I hope I don't chicken out in October and dig it up (again) 😆 😆 😆

Yeah, Your trachy looks nice and happy in that spot.
Thanks for ordering the tshirts Barb. 😀
Regards,
Jay
Thanks Jay.
The T-shirts sure look like nice quality.
Hope they look as good on me as they do on "Linda"...
😆 😆
BTW, Jay, nice customer response from the PNStore, order confirmation ASAP, and email address provided for quick follow-up if I had any questions!
Now if only we could order Palms and 5-foot tall Yuccas from your store!

Wow Barb nice photos! I don't know how I missed that post. Everything is looking really heathy and green, what a nice collection you have. Do you plan on leaving the Filiferas out over the winter? I need to get my hands on one of them so I can do some tests up here.
Bill
By the way I love that your old trachy is in the ground. It will do fine.
