Jay looks good. What was your low for the winter at your place?

Okanagan Palms and Tropicals

I am glad that they came through the winter in good shape.
It will be most of a month before I find out how my yuccas did.

You don't have to be crazy to grow palms in Alberta..... But it helps
John, My low for that spot in my yard was a bone chilling -23c My cacti bed up against my house was -18c
Allen, I hope your yuccas make it through ok. What types are you growing at your place.
Regards,
Jay
Just took these pics...yuccas look a bit beaten up. Tough winter on them, thank goodness for lots of snow when it was so cold in November.

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

Thanks. 😀 Can't wait to plant some more yuccas soon.
I've heard...pick your Yucca spot carefully. Coz apparently you need a backhoe to get it out if it's been in the ground for 10 years.
Fortunately, I've never had to move an old one.

I still am waiting to see if my Yucca flaccida garland gold and my Y. filamentosa golden sword have come through the winter undamaged. Despite 3 days of warm temps, I still can't see any part of a leaf. My rhododendrons have broken the surface and they look a little dehydrated. I won't be able to see my bamboo, Kolkwitzia and buddleai( sp) for another couple of weeks.
When I planted them all, I made sure that they were out of the wind and in a position so that the snow would cover them.
I guess that I did a good job. 😐

Edmonton HAS had warm weather...wow.
Bet they'll come through fine with that well-selected spot. Winter winds seem to do more damage than cold.
Did you buy the pink or purple Buddleia? I've got a few of each and love 'em, so do the butterflies when it's not windy.

To 1 foot? I've never protected mine over the winter. They were fairly tidy the first 4 or 5 years, now we've got some volunteers coming up here and there. I hack mine as close to the ground as my back allows EVERY late winter, and they come back gangbusters. 8 feet tall in no time.
I've never seen a white one; that would be stunning with the pink and purples.

Cutting them back sounds like a good idea. The nursery I got them from told me to leave them untouched. They would probably die back to the ground over winter and I should cut off the dead branches in the spring.
I hope that they survive. I have 2 navy blue, 2 royal purple and 2 reddish purple. When I got them there were a couple of bedraggled white plants but no pink ones.
I have the Royal purple ones in behind my pink echinacea and will be putting some dwarf shasta daisies in front of the echinacea in the spring. The planting should look good in a couple of years.

Yes, that'll be a nice colour combination.
Strange that the nursery said to not hack 'em down late winter each year...Buddleia blossom only on new wood (unlike, say, forsythia that blossoms on 2 year wood).
