I have ferocactus like that for the life of me I can't figure out how big that one in the picture is.... Mine is quite small 8-9" high and 4-5" in dia...

yea....they do seem more compact than Robusta,probably because Filifera is slower and Robusta naturally stretches out with its faster growth.
