I was fortunate to gather these palm leaf fossils from the Duke Point Hwy excavation site about 8 years ago. An overpass was put in and while construction was underway, a large fossilized palm leaf was unearthed. Barrie, each time I look at your palm fossil pics I feel a surge of excitement
and hope to find something...one day.

Phoenicites ... that's what I believe mine to be. They where collected a the same Duke Point location.

80 million years old! 8)
The article states--despite the name--they likely aren't related to a Phoenix date palm.
What a rich site at Duke Point, Barrie, so many plant/flower fossils were discovered that the site was known for its "dinosaur salad".
I can only imagine how many went into the rock crusher 🙁
