I removed the Tetrapanex protection the other day and the trunk looks much better than I expected since my power was lost for 35 hours and the outside temperature dropped to -2.9F (-19.3C). I wonder how tall it will grow this year??

I have 2 small "rex" forms I got from the UK on the front porch now waiting for a warm spell to plant out. not sure if I want to plant it full sun and let it go wild or part shade and keep the size manageable

Tim .... mine have all survived the Winter unprotected. To be honest I would be more worried about the length of the roots as for one dead plant above ground produced 10 new shoots from its roots in my garden. Still a beautiful foliage plant though and I just missed out on flowers opening last year.

Hi Barb.....yes that south facing wood fence is a nice microclimate 😀

Hi Jim.....your Tetrapanex survived with NO protection? I assume it died to the ground like mine in the 2011-2012 winter.

Hi Andy.....how tall do these Tetrapanex's get?? Will I be getting another 5 feet of trunk this season?.........and yes they do 'sucker' and I potted up a few for others to enjoy. 8)

Hi Mike......keep us updated on your Rex's. 😀

They can get quite tall in a good microclimate 10-12ft. Never had that success in my Garden. A hot wall often helps

The growth at the back of that wall must be 15ft tall 😀

Great Tetrapanex.............I only hope mine will get that big.............if it did get that big my Yuccas would be shaded. 😕

I hope they never try to remove that cutting those roots would lead to a massive invasion of tetrapanex. my rexs are outside in pots growing slowly but growing..till it warms up..hopeing to get another version from the UK that can get 3ft leaves on it..

For sure...they are tenacious...they send out rope like
extension cords all over the underground and emerge at will! 👿
