In the lower area of my terraced garden I have been revamping the slopes with extra soil. Its a big project that I should hopefully finish next year. To go in this area I have purchased some small plants mostly aralacea
Fatsia Polycarpa " Needham form"

Fatsia Polycarpa "Giant leaf form"

Schefflera Delavayii

Schefflera Taiwaniana

Podocarpus Matudae.... not heard of this Species before

Last but not least more Illiciums
Illicium Mexicanum

Illicium Floridanum "Hayleys Comet"

I thought i'd try and get Nolina Durangensis again but I think this is another Nolina Hibernica

Hi Andy

nice collection of new plants......I'm glad to see you getting the S. delavayi. That big leaf Fatsia is really cool looking......I've never seen them. I wonder if the Fatsia is available in the States??

Hi Tim.... We seem to have a good range of Fatsias. I like the Edward Needham variety which is more deeply lobed. The giant leaf variety is new so will be interested so what size leaf it attains. I lost a few Scheffleras last summer to the "hot" weather in July including a Delavayii so good to get another one if a lot smaller.

Jim... I'm a bit a of a technophobe but i'll see what I can do.

Hi Andy,

which form of Fatsia is the hardiest in your area? Did any forms perform better in the 2010 freeze?

Did your S. delavayi receive direct sun in winter? Another gardener in Deleware has a S. delavayi which is growing nicely in his garden but it does not receive any direct sun. Deleware is pretty hot/humid compared to your area. You can see his plant here...

Tim.... I have found Fatsia Japonica more hardy than Fatsia Polycarpa. I do not have any of the variegated versions of Fatsia Japonica but understand that they are slightly more tender.
Regarding Schefflera Delavayii and other Scheffleras ... not sure what happened but we had a very cold spring lasting into May and then a hot July so who knows 😕
Even one of my Daphniphylums got burnt

perhaps some of those broad leaf evergreens aren't use to direct sun in your climate since your so cloudy all the time??
