It looks like we may have some home grown papaya this year if it hurries up and grows before it freezes here.

Here's my needle palm. I'm still sad the main plant died but the suckers are starting to look more palmish

Here's my yucca elata. It looks a little taller than when I bought it. It's kind of hard to tell if its growing or not because new growth looks just like old growth

Awesome! Does your papaya sit in a pot? I've heard this plant doesn't like transplantation, does it?

Thats wicked..... How big and how old was it when you planted it?
It was maybe 1 ft tall when we planted it this year. We grew it from seed last year. It was super easy. We just let the seeds dry and threw them on top of soil. we probably threw away 40 seedlings.

I think you heard right. This one looked bad last year when I put it in a bigger pot. We planted it this year and it took awhile for it to start growing again. It needed way too much sunlight in the winter so I'm just going to leave it outside this winter. We're going to throw mulch over it but I seriously doubt it will prove root hardy.

Jeff... those Papayas look great. I really like the deep lobbing of the leaves. And you got fruit 8) I have two Papaya's both are in flower but will not fruit because of the cool nights we have here. I overwinter my plants along with other tender plants in a glass fronted shed which is attached to my house and the house opposite it is not heated but remains frost free. The papayas generally just drop their leaves and go dormant. I did have dieback on one plant but it has now recovered. That crape myrtle is to die for... can't get them that easy over here. Not enough heat to ripen the wood here.. so not hardy.
