This winter sucks. The best thing to do as a gardener is grow some seed when the winter is this bad! Heres my new RPS order!

Item: Archontophoenix alexandrae

Item: Chamaedorea microspadix

Item: Hyophorbe verschaffeltii

Item: Licuala grandis

Item: Phoenix reclinata

Item: Syagrus romanzoffiana (Litoralis)

Item: Musa velutina

Item: Phyllostachys heteroclada

Item: Metasequoia glyptostroboides

Item: Cyathea vieillardii

Barb, if any of the grandis seeds sprout youll be getting some!

Good luck with that I had 50 of them not a single one sprouted. I got mine from ebay. Perhaps they were old... I waited months for them to sprout. nada...

Banana seeds: If you have a heat mat put it on a timer so that it goes off at night. The fluctuation in temperature seems to be the key with stubborn bana seeds.

That's quite the order, Jesse. 😀

Archontophoenix are gorgeous palms.
Exceptionally beautiful ringed trunks.

Thanks for remembering that my L.grandis croaked. :compress:

Youre right paul. Mine did best outside in the summer. The temps are something like 90F during the day and 75-80F at night as a general rule. The best thing is make sure theyre fresh

Barb ive been waiting for the C microspadix for the last year. They werent available for a long time. Well see my luck on the L grandis

Jesse, and I was going to send you some seeds of the Bamboo Palm.
But I didn't do the "brush" thingy, so doubt they would've been viable.

One year will get around to that...

Nope, they're reasonably fast germinators.
I'd toss 'em.

I have a fridge full of seeds. Hickory, hosta, magnolias, fringe tree...... Havnt done a real good palm order in a while. Moso should do pretty well in mass. I know a guy who grows it near roschester new york, near the south shore of lake erie. Gets burned a bit in the winter but I dont think its had any major top kill. Just protect it for the first winter or two. Bend it down and use U shaped stakes to hold t down. Snow should do the rest. IF not just toss some leaves on. Moso is pretty hardy once it gets some size.

Barb, thats just my usual luck for seeds. I should take em outta the bag and soak test them again to see whats up. I have a bag of dypsis albofarinosa that have been taking forever too, but some dypsis species can take a bit.... Just more of what im used to when it comes to palm and banana seed lol.

Yeah, some are very very slow germinators.
Bamboo palm isn't one of them. 😆

Good luck popping your new stuff.
