Hey! What sort of new plants will you be trying this coming year? I've already begun to map out where I'm going to plant my new recruits, you know, got the itch... In my location I still have 2+ months before I can plant anything. Oh well.
So here are the new plants I'll be trying this year:
Phyllostachys rubromarginata
P. aureosulcata
P. atrovaginata
P. angusta
P. bissetii
A bunch of cacti (Opuntias and Echinoceri)
Yuccas (hybrids, glorisa etc...)
Sabal minor
Perhaps Southern Magnolia...

That's about it!
Let me know what you're trying!
Paul

Paul,

Sounds like your going to try alot of stuff. I already have alot of bamboo. Right now I'm focused on my vegetable garden. I have many tropicals indoors and many Cycads I recieved from Mr. Chumley. In edition, I'll probally grow a few more bananas and some flowers. I got alot of seeds I also need to start. 😀

My plans are subject to change based on what survived the first Zone 3a cold snaps in over 5 years.

Another Fargesia murielae bamboo

Musa Basjoo

Musa Dwarf Cavendish

Musa Raja Puri

Musa Dwarf Brazilian

Cordyline fruticosa Red sister

Sabal minor

Sabal minor V. Louisiana

Gardenia

Yucca elata

The musas will all be planted outside in shelters. I am trying to germinate some bananas and may plant them out late in the summer if I am very successful. I will also try to germinate some Z 7/8 vines for the back of the palm shelter.

You don't have to be crazy to grow palms in Alberta..... But it helps

My garden plans, although constantly changing, are adding 6 musa basjoo. This years are much taller than last years. New to the team is also musa saba and ornico. Palm additions include 2 Bismarckia , 2 mexican fan and a large mediteranian fan palm.I also found a really neat crinum the other day.Lots of seeds germinating also I hope.... now all we need is warm weather, and time.

I think I had 90 to 100 % germination. All have bben potted up and in my greenhouse to stay until they get big enough to plant out.
Thanks again
