In 2006 I found a volunteer tree along the fence of our house. Beside it was a split open pit from a plum or peach or? I hoped the seedling came from that pit. We moved from there to here in 2008, so I brought it with us and planted it here. Still not knowing what it was I was growing, I trained the trunk and branches along a horizontal plane in a sort of "candelabra" espalier. My first attempt at espaliering. I was inspired by the work of Axel Erlandson:

After seven years of growth and plenty of pruning, twine, shearing and of course waiting, we have this:

It's a yellow plum tree! And we had about eight plums on it this summer 🙂

Eight years shows a lot of faith and patience, Adam.

Nice job espaliering.

Glad it didn't turn into a chokecherry. 😆

Actually crabapple would've also been a good choice to espalier.
Congrats on promoting the process...becoming a lost art as there's a whole generation who haven't even heard of it.
