Anyone try growing this plant. Its the biggest of the red hot pokers and the foliage looks like an agave
Zone 6/7 hardy ... I'm not sure about that.

My only attempt at Red Hot Pokers was trying to grow one from seed I purchased.
It did not spout.

Yes, I planted Kniphofia northiae last summer. It survived this zone 5 b winter. It looks awful but it is alive though:

That's great that it survived ... did you cover it in winter? How was it planted? seed or a live plant? When do you expect it to flower?

Found a page showing how big gets when it flowers

I have never had the luck of any red hot living through the winter here. 😐

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

I planted a K caulescens last fall from High Country Gardens. It was a 4 inch pot, lowest it saw was 12F a few nights. Looks pretty decent now, I hope it gets as nice as those in the links.

I bought it potted last summer. A lady I trust very much has assured me it grows with no problems here. That's why I didn't use any protection on that. Just 1+ meter of snow 😆
I need finding different spot for this plant. Too shady at there where it's sitting now.
