I've tried that with Starfruit, grew like hell the first summer and then died the second year unfortunately.
Same thing happened to someone else on PN.

Also tried dates, the Mejdool dates. All germinated and none grew. Strange!

Barb- We still have 5 large star-fruit going after 3 years. 2 of them have flowered so far (not much to report in that regard)...

Cameron- If you like fruiting trees see if you can't find Paw-Paw seeds or Poncirus!!

Paul, congrats on the 3 year old starfruit.
They have such beautiful delicate leaves...like a miniature form of the black locust tree.

Ok, please forgive in advance my ignorance.
I thought all these fruit were irradiated, to kills pathogens. (I support that.)
I assumed the down-side was that their seeds were fried. Not true, apparently?

Barb: I've tried germinating dates once, and none grew! I think the soil temps weren't warm enough. I've stockpiled around 25 seeds now, and am going to give them another try soon 😀

Paul: You read my mind. I'm going to be getting some paw paws from Grimo's next year, and as for this year, I'm bringing in some poncirus and citrumelo plants from the US.

Erik, I thought many fruits were irradiated too because, time after time, I failed to get Key Lime to germinate.
Yet others in the US did it all the time (I think Lazzz started the post a couple of years ago).
But it was just my lack of ability 😆 😆

Agree that Medjool dates need very very warm soil (probably hot sand, like in situ) to grow.
But the germination rate impressed me, just about all popped in a damp paper towel.

Cameron, you'll have enough Dragon Fruit to satisfy your craving! 8)
