OOooh the red ones are pretty.
Got a pic, Cameron?

Anybody know why my Cymbidium orchid bloomed and then a week later all the blossoms browned overnight and fell off?
Didn't even take a photo yet 😥

lol

One thing to keep in mind. I DO know orchids when stressed will put out a bloom, to try to ensure survival. IF its been dry for that long. the bloom could be a sign of its demise. One of my moth orchids did the same thing. IT should be ok, just give it some water!

What is it planted in? Please tell me it isnt commercial orchid mix in a plastic pot :S

yes, plastic pot BUT big pieces of bark only, no soil.

I'm guessing it was too dry, and too warm.

For some reason I thought this was a thread about things blooming outside right now! I guess not. BUUUUT, I will sya that the following are in bloom right now:

Heather (Erica spp.)
Pieris (P. japonica)
Helleborus

That is all. If mild temps keep for a while I expect to see snowdrops in Feb this year.

I talked to my buddy. You are right, not nearly enough water, and too warm. Does the pot have a bunch of slots for airflow?

Thanks Jesse.
It's because the plastic pot didn't have slits that I'm so careful with watering ..oh well, the flowers were nice for a few days 😆

:O that could have something to do with it too....

WHile that type of orchid has bulbits (may not be the right term), they can take quite a bit of dryness, but liek most orchids they need good airflow across the roots to grow well. IF its been in there for more then a year, in tho ebark chips, I would repot it in a plastic mesh basket, like the one strawberries used to come in. I can get you a good recipie for orchid medium, which is mostly sphagnum and perlite. THis makes watering way easier, cause you jsut let some water go throughthe basket for a few minutes, and let it hang!

Let me know if you need that recipie, ill let the thread go back to normal 😀
