Between the dwarf varieties of fruit trees: apples, plums, peaches, apricots, cherries, or other fruit trees which one is the most ornamental looking that would grow in my zone? 6b and looks good with tropical plants?
What do you expect of, "ornamental looking"? Will this be a focal point or specimen tree? Do you seek form, foliage or flower?
For 6b, all the abovementioned varieties are sufficiently hardy.
My suggestion for foliage is Pawpaw. A very tropical, fully leaved tree with delicious fruit. You can order from grimo nut farm,

They are in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Thanks for the suggestion of the Pawpaw. My father got a seedling last year and I think he will plant it in the ground soon. I have to ask him where he got it, because I think he found it locally. I've not seen a pawpaw at maturity other than pictures online. I was looking for something with nice foliage that stays small. This might be it. Thanks!
In a way all fruit trees look "ornamental" because you get nice flowers and then also large colorful fruit. But I don't really have that much space so I was looking at dwarf trees for sale in the box stores and these are usually the choices you see. I think I would commit to getting many different kinds if I could grow them in containers so they stay small. Just no experience with growing fruit trees, and I know that growing them in containers is much harder.
It would be in the middle of my backyard so something that gets noticed but also doesn't get too big. I would plant a small orange tree there if I lived in a warmer climate.
So maybe something with orange/yellow/red fruit that also has nice foliage.
