I put a hundred of seeds of the Desert willow in the soil, but have no seedlings yet....

Chilopsis linearis seedlings survived the winter with no protection and are starting to grow.

After I read this, I checked on mine and it is also starting to grow. 😉

how much die back to you get on your Chilopsis? It appears both of mine are sprouting near the base and nothing up higher. Perhaps mine will do better when older and more established??

Mine is also sprouting near the base, but it has just started, so I don't know if it has die back yet, and mine is very small. I have had one for a few years in the past and it is common for them to get die back below a zone 7. I can tell you this...the ones I have seen in Twin Falls (20 miles south of me) get better every year, but have some die back every year. 🙂 They grow more bush like than tree like in colder areas. 😉

Update, Mine has sprouted leaves on all branches. It was covered with plastic. 😉

nice to hear the Chilopsis is coming back......perhaps my tiny ones will be hardier next winter. 😉

Tim, I seen the big one at Plantasia Cactus Gardens and it was barely growing leaves from the base as well. They must need warmer weather to get going in the spring. Looks like ours are normal for this far north. 😀

Mine has just started taking off sense the weather has cooled as the same with the yuccas. This is when my yuccas grow the most! 😀
