So, last year my Phyllostachys areosulcata alata had a rough winter (my fault) which resulted in no shoots. This year, it still looks pretty rough, so I was thinking about replacing it with some sort of tree. So I walk out today, take a quick look and decide to dig it up. I grab my shovel, walk up to it and take a look to see where I should dig. THen I noticed this:

Nice pics, canadianplant! One of my new P. aureosulcata "spectabilis" shoots really surprised me with shoot growth; a shoot had emerged and grew around 6 inches within a couple of days! The largest new shoots on my P. bissetii are around 4' tall now! 😆

EVen with the cool spring eh? THats pretty good!

The thing with this P alata, is that it didnt shoot at all last year. IT also had half top kill. IT had a rough winter (my fault). It still had some minor leaf burn, but was generally ok this year. I shouldve threw compost and manure around it, but I lost all hope!

Great........the bamboo should take off now! I bet in 2 years you'll be trying to get rid of it since it's so invasive. 😆

LOL I dont think it will be so rampent here. All i have to do is make sure there is ground that stays frozen around it. It should create a natural barrier thatll kill of any roots that creep too far!

Then again..... It would look pretty cool to have a big patch back there.
