This one is for Jay in the interior. Here's Arbutus in habitat in the Greater Victoria area on a sunny day this January. This is one reason why transplants favour your province.

Enjoy

There should be more palms at English Bay.

My favourite native tree. I love the smooth red trunks and shiny green leaves.
Where I live there is a forest of them close by.

Yes, Wes, there are so many in and around West Van.
When I was a kid, we'd often go for hikes around Caulfield.
Arbutus seemed to grow from every crack in boulders along the shore.

Twenty years later, I tried to transplant a young one into my Port Coquitlam garden.
Despite taking great care (even marking N on the trunk to retain the aspect), it didn't make it.
Too far from the ocean! 😥

I've never seen one as large as the image.

If you drink, don't drive. Don't even putt.

Yes it is too bad they do not transplant well.

You have to buy a potted young plant or grow from seed.
