We had what may be our biggest earthquake ever a few minutes ago, preliminarily a 5.2.
Heck of a year, 2011: coldest and hottest, now biggest quake. 😯
It was a 5.6, the biggest in state history (previous record was a 5.5).

So, yes, quite a year for records in OK.
No, no potted plants fell over.
I forgot you were even on a fault line Erik. The only one i think of is the one arkansas is on.. (always forget the name).
Glad your all ok

I saw this on the news, it seems as if a few buildings were damaged!

I take a bit of that post back: one potted plant fell over.
Yes, I felt it! It was strong, shallow and lasted a long time. We were in bed and I woke up Rhea as I thought we'd have to take cover.
I thought I gave up on quakes like that when I left the west coast. 😡
This segment from the Weather Channel has a still image showing that birds took flight after the quake last night.
http://www.weather.com/weather/videos/news-41/top-stories-169/earthquake-birds-caught-on-radar-22470
It also reminds viewers of the weather records OK had had this year: coldest (-31 F), most snow (Tulsa), biggest hail, hottest month, plus some colossal tornadoes.
Can't wait for 2011 to end....
CopyCat!! LOL 🙂

Doesnt that make tulsa a zone 4?

I'm glad all are ok. That's a pretty big earthqUake. Any aftershocks?

Sid,
I copy everything from you I can! Hoping for snow 😆
Jesse,
I'm not sure if "zone 4 for a few hours" counts as "zone 4" but many dead plants sure say it does. 😯
Basically, though, 2011 has been a heck of a year here on "Terdal Farm" no matter how you figure it.
Tim,
yes, a few. I'm from the west coast so to me it doesn't count 'til it gets to 5+ (remember, it is a log scale, so the 5.6 yesterday evening was MUCH stronger than the 4.7 earlier in the day).
Anyway, I used to say about cold, tornados, hail, heat, drought that compared to Oregon, at least we don't have earthquakes. Now I'm wondering how fast I can get outa here.....

Eric Crazy stuff! We too got all that in Connecticut this year! What is going on?

Hmmm...
lead-up to Dec. 21, 2012, on the Maya calendar? Sounds like I need to do some field research....
That birds reference reminded me of a big earthquake in China a few years ago.
People reported seeing all birds take to the sky immediately beforethe quake struck.
Also, pinkish edged clouds were reported to suddenly appear.
But at 11:30 at night, birds would've all been roosting...
Hope there's no more shaking there, Erik!
