Hello,

I am new to cleaning palm seed, but I've heard that you should soak in water for 24 hours first. After soaking in water you let them dry off then scrape the fruit off. Is anybody doing anything different?

I usually just soak them, clean & plant. Most seem easier to clean while still wet.

I have heard it suggested to let them dry out before attempting to germinate. That may help break dormancy with some seeds, but it seems counterproductive to everything we do to get them to germinate 😕

What is the worst you've found to clean ? for me it has been Queen Palm seed, I had a plastic bag of a couple hundred arrive while it was in the 90's here. The smell when I opened that bag took weeks to dissipate 🙂 After spending a couple days cleaning each seed by hand. I had a total of 2 germinate.........I really haven't tried these again since that episode....lol

So far the worst I have had to clean are the Serona repens seed. When they arrived the seeds were wrapped in newspaper and smelled really bad.

Serenoa repens also has a "eggshell" type coating that should be removed. Once you clean the pulp off & let them dry, squeeze then & the shell will crack & you remove it.

Laaz,

I discovered that shell. There is a peanut like seed inside.
