Hi all

I guess this is where people use to introduce themselves?

My name is Sébastien and I live near Paris, France (northern suburbs) which is in zone 8 usda (average summer, and average but wet winters with minus 10°C ; sorry we do use the celsius... I don't how much Farenheit degrees it is, I think around 15°F)
I'm 25 y.o. ; I work in a mobile marketing company. I love dogs, reptiles, alternative rock, and long walk at the beach (this one is a joke 😉 ).
Since several years, I try to acclimate palms and other exotics plants in my garden, with a clear specialization in winter hardy plants.
I'm also a great enthusiast of the Yucca genera (and also Agave genera)

This is what I grow outside until now (it changes often!):
Chamaerops humilis (2 forms: 1 with black spines, and a second with very thin foliage)
Chamaerops humilis 'cerifera' (sweet!)
Trachycarpus fortunei
Trachycarpus wagnerianus
Trachycarpus princeps (the true blue one)
Rhapidophyllum hystrix
Brahea armata
Brahea dulcis blue
Brahea sp. super silver
Butia capitata
Butia yatay
Guihahia argyrata
Nannhorops ritchieana 'Kashmir' (green form)
Nannhorops ritchieana 'Iran silver' (blue form, I love them)
Sabal palmetto
Sabal minor
Sabal minor 'Louisiana'
Serenoa repens 'normal' and 'georgian blue form'
Jubaea chilensis (the Garden King)
Thrithrinax campestris
Phoenix canariensis (limit for my zone, kept dry during winter)
Washingtonia filifera (limit for my zone, kept dry during winter)

Cycas revoluta
Dicksonia antarctica
Some hardy Musa and Musella lasiocarpa

Agavacea: (from seedlings to aged one, all kind of sizes, lots are protected from moisture during winter)
Agave americana
Agave americana mediopicta
Agave parryi parryi
Agave parryi truncata
Agave parryi couesii
Agave neomexicana
Agave montana
Agave Mckelveyana
Agave harvardiana
Agave victoria-reginae
Agave franzosinii
Agave chrysantha
Agave ovatifolia
Agave lechuguilla
Agave utahensis var. kanabensis

Yucca filamentosa
Yucca aloifolia
Yucca glauca
Yucca filifera
Yucca elata
Yucca faxoniana
Yucca baccata
Yucca carnerosana (insanely beautiful)
Yucca thomsoniana (3 big ones 1 meter + my own seedlings)
Yucca brevifolia
Yucca rostrata
Yucca rigida
Yucca nana (hard to find. But awesome! )
Nolina texana

I probably forget some, but anyway the list change very often ! 😆

The plants I am looking for for the year to come are:
Nolina sp. la Siberica
Syagrus sp. 'Santa Catarina' (Silver queen palm) to try in a usda z8
x Butyagrus nabonnandi
Sabal sp. Riverside
other awesome yuccas (particularly treeform species)

I went to the the USA twice in my life, and I hope I'll come another day, just to buy some stuff in your nice plant nurseries!

Well, please understand that I came from a non-english speaking country, so be kind.

I'm very happy to be here and to share experience with you.

Bye!

Sébastien

Welcome Sébastien 😀

Your list of exotics is impressive to say the least. I wish if when I where 25, I had even half that number of choice palms, yucca, agave etc.
Feel free to dive right into the forum and compare notes with like minded folks. There's a good group here with plenty of knowledge, experience & enthusiasm.

Cheers, Barrie.

Welcome Sebastien

Now we are at least two people from France.
We are both members of the "Fous de Palmiers" forum.
Nobody knows me here although I am a very old member: I joined in august 2004. 😀
I should introduce myself again because I didn't post any message since that time. 😳

I will come here more often in the future, it's a very interesting forum that has grown a lot.
