All,
I am new to this forum, I just joined today. I have a passion for tropical plants, I drive my wife crazy during the winter because we live in a zone 6. I have plants in 3 of the main rooms of the house and they take up about 3/4 of a two car garage. I really need a greenhouse. I hope to get to know and share with all of you at some point in time. I have a lot of knowledge to share and ten time more to learn than I know. Hope to get to know each of you soon.
Michael
Welcome. I am not a rich person, so a greenhouse was a BIG decision. I went ahead and got one and am SOOOO glad I did. Well worth the money. Also, it makes a GREAT place to go out to when it's 17 degrees outside. You just walk out and set in a chair and it feels like your in Florida.
Kansas,
Nice to meet you! What size greenhouse did you put up? Do you have a heater for your greenhouse or is it sun powered?
Michael
8" by 6", I think. I have one small electric heater, but the GH is on the South side of a shed so the cold North winds are blocked, and it faces the South Sun which keeps it hot in there too.
I caulked up the holes too. It gets hot enough in there during the day that it heats up the soil enough to where they are fine.
Let me put it to you this way...
First year I had a greenhouse, I left EVERYTHING out there all Winter. I only lost MAYBE 4-5 things.
Second year, I decided not to try it and I put stuff inside. I lost at least 15-20 trees from the dry furnace and not enough sun light.
So they all stay out in the GH now year round.
welcome Michael. nice to meet you and glad to have another tropical nut on board. There is alot of good information here, hope you participate , learn and share.

Welcome to the forum Michael.
I also have an 8' x 6' greenhouse and use it in the summer for my exotics as well as tomatoes and cucumbers. I do not heat it.

You don't have to be crazy to grow palms in Alberta..... But it helps
Great!
Another zone sixer!
Welcome aboard, Michael.

Welcome aboard Michael! I'm a newbie here myself as well, just joined a few nights ago, so maybe we can learn all of this stuff together:) I spent a little time in Florence a couple years ago when I did the grand opening for the Guitar Center store there... nice town. Best of luck!
and welcome aboard to Jova too!
Always happy to see new members' plant collections (hint hint) 😀
