Charles, my Chinese fan is in the cold barely-heated building, about 50F.
The sunporch freezes?
They don't mind being crammed into a livingroom corner with all their leaves bunched up pointing at the ceiling and a sofa shoved up against them!

No, its just home to my Norfolk Island Pine, 5 citrus trees, several citrus seedlings, 2 jades, and 1 Christmas cactus (sounds like the lyrics to a song). Plus the tv, two chairs, a bookcase, and about a million of my kid's toys. So no room left at the inn.
I had it under lights in the basement, but near the furnace. And the dry air is damaging it. So I was wondering if it could just chill on the other side. Never goes below 50F.
What can I tell ya? Records, vintage audio, plants. My interests are taking over.
chill on the other side
the other side of what? the basement furnace?
How's the light there? any cold drafts from garage door?
In my home in winter, my Chinese Fan Palm prefers (in order):
(1) bright light no more than 3-4 feet away from east or south window (west is OK), north isn't bright enough for this guy.
(2) no hot air blowing near it from a furnace vent.
(3) 50-F is perfect for the whole winter. Needs very little water at those temps, every 5 weeks.
To get it back into good shape now that you're moving it, mist it once or twice a day with room temp water (not straight from the tap).
Some people have huge bathrooms...put it in a corner and it'll benefit from shower humidity as long as there's good daylight from window.
Or put the fan palm on top of the vintage audio... 😆 😆
PS - would love to see pics of your "song lyric plants"

Just the other side of the basement. Not much light, if any. No hot air.
No huge bathroom. In fact very small. I reside in a 1950s ranch.
Not much light, if any
Not good for any palm...

True enough. I have set up another area away from the furnace with plant lights. Perhaps I can put it there. Ironically, I have a potted Butia and its thriving next to the furnace under two plant bulbs. Go figure.
Thanks Lucky.

ironic indeed, my Butia died this year (winter indoors, summers out)
Butias like it hot so it'll do fine there under light.
They don't need to be misted (increasing humidity), which chinese fan palms do...
Good luck.

Everyone's indor palms look really great. I currently have 23 tropicals strewn around the house......I even left a large queen palm in the ground outside, it is starting to brown finally. I may spray it with green spray paint and decorate it for Xmas....What do you think???

I love the idea!
Our only Christmas tree is an outdoors Chamearops with lights on a thermocube. It is covered right now, but on mild nights it is out there glowing. 😀

Who is that PN guy who brings in queen palms and leans them against the sofa with the crown towards the window as they are too tall?
