I hope it will put on a few canes in the next year or 2. I want to repot it so I don't have to mess with it for a long while but I figured I should let it rest since it may be stressed from the mail and new climate.

You could carefully invert it without losing any soil/disturbing roots.
But never go into a too-big pot.
Increments are best so roots don't stay waterlogged from too much soil.
I think a new acquisition through the mail system has had a pretty rough ride, maybe baby it for a while to let it settle in before potting up.
