I just had to buy this sorry little guy. 😀
One stem and frond were crispy and brown.
Hardly any soil in 4 inch pot...yes 4 inch!

Thanks!
Barb

If there is a yellow line running down the back of the frond it's a spindle palm. The boots look like a spindle to me.

Fronds didn't resemble the 10 foot Majestys they had on sale, Todd. Leaf colour isn't that similar.

Craig, frond is rougher than my Spindle, segments are a little wider and shorter on the new one.
Spindle's fronds seem almost perfect in shape, whereas this one's more raggedy looking (maybe from
being near-death). But there is a yellow stripe down the center (underneath) fronds.

Will take a pic in daylight of the two of them together.

Better pics today..

Compared to the Spindle at right, the bargain bin palm has very wide frond sections...

Thanks.

Hi Barb,
Not not sure of the ID, but it does resemble a Hyophorbe. ( Spindle or Bottle)
The wide leaflets can be a result of growing in low light.

Steve, thanks.
Wow...that MUCH variation in leaf width from growing in low light conditions? 😯

Our local walmart has a whole shelf of fried spindles... They left them out when we had the quick freeze two weeks ago. They still want $18 for them even though they are quite dead...

Bet there'll be one employee fired.

What a shame those Spindles are fried.
😥
They're dead for sure? Then even $5 is too much.

The Spindle is becoming one of my favorites. Both of mine got fried last spring by a late frost and looked like they were gone. They are making a good come back, both are on their third new frond. I would ask them if they are going to throw the burnt spindles out and if so take them home. They are pretty tough palms.
