I was determined to find a way to keep the fungus gnats at a minimum this winter. About a month ago I was googling some stuff on the internet and found a cannabis website in which some dude (get it, a weed website) posted some information about hydrogen peroxide's magical powers to aerate the soil and kill fungus gnats. About a month ago, I started watering all indoor plants each week with 2 teaspoons of hydrogen peroxide mixed with 1 gallon of water and the results have been great. Granted I have been watering very sparingly this winter, but I seriously hardly ever see a fungus gnat in my house. Whether the stuff is working or I am watering properly (which I doubt), I'm pretty happy because I hate fungus gnats. If you want to read the post, just google "fungus gnats and hydrogen peroxide". I didn't post the link here cause ....... well just because.

Thanks for not linking to that 😆
Have enough plants for a random ized experiment? Half get it, half get water?
Kent,
Thanks for that idea.
Makes sense if it's effective above ground that it might also work in the soil.
Trust a stoner to come up with the best ideas 😕
He probably already tried candy bars and chips in the soil.
Had to laugh about your inadvertently stumbling on that website... 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆

If you drink, don't drive. Don't even putt.
I've been using one part hydrogen peroxide to 3 parts water and it does work!

Wow, that's a heck of a lot.
Do you feel it aerates the soil too, i.e. makes it more porous?

IF i found bugs in the soil, i mix a few drops of dish soap in some water, then water the plant with that, let it soak through for abotu 5 minutes, then flush the soil with clean water. In my experience, its never effected my plants. Something to think about at least!

No harmful effects yet. I figured if you can use it full strength to help whiten teeth . . . 😀

Too Funny! I am having good results though. Going to be buying a lot more peroxide for the winter. The dryer sheets don't really work.

Plus the dryer sheets hanging all around the place look really stupid...wannabe in Nepal???
Especially that moisture-retentive MG soil mix...
I mean...really....who has plants and can't get around to watering. :withstupid:
Like everything else, don't believe the marketing BS.
Hydrogen peroxide it is then.

I am sorry to report the hydrogen peroxide thing is not working on the fungus gnats. My teeth, however, are as white as they were in second grade.
Not sure what happened, but last weekend I had an explosion of fungus gnats in my basement grow room. I literally filled up 3 of those yellow hanging sticky traps in 24 hours. Resorted to using the BT and knocked back the number pretty good in just 24 hours.
Back to watering with BT.

😆 White teeth.
Too bad it didn't work on fungus gnats, Kent.
Means my basement seed starting area will explode with 'em too.
There's a new strain of BT developed for larvae of flies, etc. including fungus gnats, because the regular stuff works chiefly on needle and leaf-feeding bugs like caterpillars.
