Wow, nice size for $15. I had one but It died. 🙁
Sweet. Try separating them and you will have a forest... 😉

Wow. That is bigger than either of the 2 that I got from HD last spring. And I thought that I got a bargain at $18 each.
Allen
You don't have to be crazy to grow palms in Alberta..... But it helps

Barb, you don't know how right you are!!! 😆
I have an area I plan on doing a tropical landscape this spring. I thought this big guy would look good with my Bajoos and a big $10 Majesty I got last fall. I like the idea of using cheap tropicals as annuals in the landscape.
That is sort of what I did last summer with my chinese fans. I found that they will damage easily in any wind. See my avatar for what was left of my 2 after 2 months in the ground and subject to occasional east winds.

Allen, agree that our winds do so much damage to otherwise great summer conditions.
My next house (dream only 😀 ) will have lots of "L" and "U" angles to protect my palms...maybe a glass roof covering the U shape 😉
Couldn't care less what it's like INSIDE 😐
Craig, that's an excellent idea.
Especially with palms at such a low low price.
Being a Palms North member, you'll soon build contraptions to keep them over winter 😉
Hope you'll post pics of your tropical landscape as you're building it.

I am ready to get going on it now!!! Darn winter!!! The area I have is between my house and a detached garage. NIce and protected. Wind is not a big concern here. The mountains sort of buffer alot of it. I am still tryinging to think how I can put up a temporary roof and enclosure over the area in the winter. It would give me about a 20' x 30' area with a 15' ceiling. I am leaning torwards something like a removable pvc poly-house with added heat in the winter. Sort of a living greenhouse idea.
Craig.... 😯 your place sounds PERFECT for sheltering palms. No wind? whoopeeee!
I'd give my eye teeth for 20 x 30 foot area with a 15 foot ceiling in an L shape.
Which way does it face? south? that'd be great for winter protection but would have to be heavily vented or removed for summer otherwise plants would fry.
In our area, the coldest most damaging winter weather comes from the northwest.
If it's facing east or south east, you could actually do something permanent there.
Man, that'd be fun to do. Keep us posted.
(In the meantime your Trachy is saying ... yup, do it! 😕 )

The area is open on the west and east sides so ventilation should be good. Our nasty winds also come out of the northwest, especially this time of year when a clipper comes down out of Canada. The garage blocks these type of winds.
I will be looking for input as the time draws near.
Craig
As the originator of those 'wonderful' Alberta Clippers, I will be ready to give you all the advice that you can stand, both good and bad. 😀 😀 😀

Sounds like a perfect spot.
Since we're all so bored with winter, how about a pic of the area so we can get the dream going?

Cali - that is a great find. got to keep your eyes open this time of year for some great buys.
Kent in Kansas

and hot in summer (usually)
