My Rhapis excelsa had two babies beside it.
Today I separated the babies from the parent but after cutting with a steak knife straight down
into the pot, I found I didn't get any roots for either baby.
I soaked them in Thrive (B vitamin) for 10 minutes and then potted them. The parent is on the right with the babies in their pots. (They'll probably be dead as a rock tomorrow morning! ) 😥
No roots at all. Is there a chance they'll make it?

If you drink, don't drive. Don't even putt.
I tried that with a majesty before. I got lots of root but they died. Maybe cause it was a majesty who knows. I have 2 Musa's that have babies and I have been told to wait till they are at least 10 inches high. Not sure if thats the same with palms.!!
A shame about your baby majesty.
I should've repotted the mother plant.
Would've seen where the stems of the babies were attached to get a bit of root. But I was lazy.
Thanks.
I do expect them to die...darn.
But if they live...it'll be a real testament to that B vitamin treatment.
I would buy a bucket of it then. 🙄

Barb; Using a rooting hormone powder or gel may improve your chances. I've used that on cuttings with some success. Most Home Depots and nurseries carry it. It usually comes in 3 types; 1 for vegetative cuttings, 2 for softwood cuttings and 3 for hardwood cuttings. I would use #3.
Good luck. I hope that they make it.

You don't have to be crazy to grow palms in Alberta..... But it helps
Thanks for the tip, Allen.
I'll certainly know better for next time, and use a #3.
Too late now, I'll just "suck up" the loss as wisdom...
It's 24 hours later and they're still standing 😉
