Thought I'd give the palms a good once over today, this cat has been losing leaves left and right, and I don't prune them until completely brown, and it had been awhile since any died,so I thought I'd take a good look, and do my surprise!!!

Just by holding the stem of the flower, you can see the pollen that has fallen on my hands![/img]

Thought it was a female from the first photo.....sorry about that 😐

Did find a site with some nice habitat photos of Chamaedoreas

Are you going to try save & store any of the pollen?

Will have to check out those links.
Hadn't thought about saving the pollen, how long would it still be fertile!
Palor palm just finshed flowering, the little yellow balls have all fallen off, would that be a female flower?

After missing the first one I'm scared to take a second guess 😆

The link above has male/female Parlour Palm photos that should help.

This is an article that deals with storing cycad pollen. The same technique , ( desiccation & eventual freezing) ,should work well with Palms too.

Hi Barb,
I can't really say how old it is,I bought it last spring,in a gallon pot,and it was rootbound,so I potted up to a 3 gallon,this fall.
These were nice size flowers,it still is losing foliage,I need to get it outside again, before It croaks on me!!!
I think next week it will be nice enough to go outside!
I wished I had something I could have pollinated it with, maybe nextime my lady palm will come in flower at the same time, not sure these varieties would even cross pollinate, but it would be fun trying!!!

Don, you were sure fortunate to be able to get a plant mature enough to flower so soon...besides it had been neglected so it loves its new home 😀 <--- happy plant.

And, yes, after all, isn't that how all the different types originated? Give it a go whenever something else is blooming.
I'd pass on the Maple, though 😉

Will you put it in the ground, or on the patio in a pot? I think with these lovely flowers, it's worth letting them finish blossoming indoors just to see what happens. They are so uniquely-shaped...how very cool.
Congrats.
BTW I love Spikey...he's very handsome!
