I have a nice Pygmy Palm that I am planning on bringing into my house for the winter. I have been seeing ants in the soil that the palm is planted in. How do I kill the ants before I bring the pot into the house?
If it's container is not too large, you can submerge it in a tub of water for a half hour or so.
Other than that, you can also add a granular insecticide to the soil. (Bayer Tree & Shrub, etc)

for what its worth I treat most of my potted palms with granular insecticide before bringing them in for winter as precautionary. I have learned in the past that you can bring in alot of nasty looking bugs and things in the soil that my wife hates. I carry everything into the garage for a few days and spray with bug killer and use the granualr insecticide. The garage is kind of a holding area for a few days until I bring them inside for the winter.
Kent in Kansas
where it's cold in winter (always)
and hot in summer (usually)
