Very nice. So far that pyramid seems to be good for holding heat dont you think?

Macario and Jay I think the radiant heat from the three heat lamps should do the job. The pitch angle of the pyramid will keep any snow at the base. I can also remove the cover on nice days within a minute and replace it just as fast. I just hope my wifes friend follows my instructions while we are on vacation to Cuba.

Neat idea, John!
Gotta ask...that last link "building small pyramids"...what is the purpose of THAT one?

Re your vacation...we're supposed to warm up on Dec 3 for three or four days.
Nites will be above freezing, with daytime nearing 10 C.
So you probably don't have to worry about the palmsitter. 😉

Have a good holiday.

Barb the site you looked at with the steel pyramids is what I create as another hobby of mine. We should all hope for a warmer winter . It won`t hurt my feelings any if I don`t have to use the shelter. Thanks for the well wish on our vacation. I will post pics when we get back. Hope to bring some seeds back as well.

I have only used one heat lamp so far under the palm pyramid back in Dec. We are expecting a cold snap next weekend so I might have to use two or all three depending how cold it gets.Palmetto I have a remote thermometer to keep track of inside temps.

John, that pyramid system looks like it's working great.
Holding up well, and palms look untouched by winter.

You need a 3 car garage (two-storey) 😆 😆
That fortunei is huge, looks better mid-winter than when you got it!
Stunning butia, med and washys...wow.
Your bamboo and bananas really took off this year.

What's that very tall lone palm in the back of the garage?

Can't wait to see where you put everything this summer! 😆

Barb that tall palm you are referring to is a King palm. Spring I will be planting lots more after I see how this winters experiment turns out.I promised my wife that I would build a greenhouse so no more palms in the garage.

John,
King Palm...good-looking palm that would be suitable for tall and narrow areas.

Hope your GH planning/construction will be on the forum in pics.

John that is insane man. I can't believe how many palms you have . You truely are an palm addict. Congrats!

That butia is just about too big for your garage. Great looking specimen though.

I can also see why the wife wants you to build a greenhouse. There is no way my wife would let me get away with that.

I know the palms days are numbered in the garage. I`m getting tired of clearing the snow off her car and my truck while outside. Thats the deal I made her for keeping the palms in the garage. I can stop palms anytime "really I can" LOL 😆
