Yes, abnormal winter cold. Maybe they should keep it small and simple and just get one or two trees with fire marshal approved heating.

You would think for the 20-$30,000(I forget exactly how much it was),
he would have found a way to heat them/or at least done a little more homework.
He is not the first person to see that Trachys have survived -20F and thought they could make it!

Well this will by first winter at attempting to over winter two of my 6 Wind Mills. We'll see how I do before planting the other 4!

Great idea without the knowledge to protect the palms and their rather large investment. Unfortunately now they will say Trachy palms will not grow there? Jim can prove them wrong!

Even if they had 1 or 2 and were able to learn to over winter them, it would still be a novelty for the hotel and garner interest.
They need to hire Coconut Mike from Montreal to consult with.
