A few cold-burnt fronds next Spring for sure:

<a href=" http://www.flickr.com/photos/southslope/10765599465/" title="001 by edible_plum, on Flickr"><img src=" " width="600" height="800" alt="001"></a>

And a big modification to the palm hut coming up for next Fall. 😯

<a href=" http://www.flickr.com/photos/southslope/10765699804/" title="002 by edible_plum, on Flickr"><img src=" " width="600" height="800" alt="002"></a>

Darn squirrels and mice make a mess of things when panels are laid down for summer storage.

<a href=" http://www.flickr.com/photos/southslope/10765688416/" title="003 by edible_plum, on Flickr"><img src=" " width="600" height="800" alt="003"></a>

...will be happy if winter doesn't arrive.

So far so good with the weather, Tim.

Are you working at your protection now too?
You probably have a longer mild spell in the Fall than we do.

Yup, Washies are also protected in their ugly teepees, as are the early-March 2013 planted Brahea armata and Chamaerops humilis v. cerifera.

My front yard resembles a plastic recycling facility 😆
thankfully the front yard is a lot higher than the road and not visible to passers by.

Good luck with getting your protection installed.

Hi Barb,

not much being protected yet......I generally drag in all the containers on the cold nights or place a tarp over them......not many non hardy plants in the garden....I guess the least hardy plants in my garden is the Trachycarpus nainital, Loquat, Metapanax's, Fatsia, Aloes and Tetrapanax......all of which can take some cold but need to be pampered through the winter. 8)

Always get a kick out of your winter pic that showed the Christmas lights "tunnel" melted through the snow.

drag in all the containers on the cold nights

Ouch...hope you won't have many of those nights.

Hi Keith,

Yup, the heater will go in there again.
But the door will stay open until it gets colder.

got all my palms plugged in today . I hope i added enough insulation and heat. time will tell.

The cold is still a ways off but good to be ready.

The first year of protection is always the toughest...wondering whether it'll be enough.

Just track your minimum temps and what you did for each palm for a repeat each winter.

Did you get a thermocube?

Barb
