Enstete ventricosum 'Maurellii'
Inside the plywood and insulated enclosure complete with old Xmas lights for added warmth during frosty weather. All this is new growth during this winter. I've tried to slow it down but to no avail.
Washingtonia robusta
All this one seems to need is a cover to keep the rain and frost/snow from settling on the fronds. No heat needed. I tie up the fronds to save space.
Phoenix canariensis
Another palm that seems to do fine with a protective cover only. I expect this one to grow well this year as it will be it's third year planted.

You know, I might try the ole Robusta in the ground again this Spring. Yours looks GREAT and I went to KNNN's 5-6 days ago and his looks awsome too. Both have the same kind of frame with a loose fit, southern exposure. My early attempt was with it tightly wrapped. I really think it would have made it if it didn't get so wet in the spear. Maybe leaving it more open let's it air out more. By "open" I mean not wrapped tight, but stil with over head protection from rain and snow.

I have my triple 'Maurellii' in a pot in the basement with very little light and temps about 60*F. Darn things are still growing. Not fast, but the new leaves show noticable growth. Any idea why this variety seems to still grow in cooler conditions?

very nice berry I am glad to see everything has made it through the winter. You wouldnt even think it was winter in there yet

Three weeks more growth on the 'Maurellii' since the original posting. It's much richer in color with longer days and higher light levels. Mid March and everything comes down although I'll keep the enclosure up on the Ensete til early April.

I've removed the poly cover from the Washingtonia robusta and now it's able to begin a new season of growth. Overall height is about 5' on this one and with it being it's third year in the ground, I expect good growth this season.
