Holy crap can you say yucca/agave season? LOL It looks like most of us are starting soem sort of them!
Barb - Sorry, I thought i had replied! The agave seem to be doing well, and still growing in a southern window all winter (slowly of course:P ). They no look like tiny little representations of their adult glory. They're going to be repotted in the next few weeks. If you use normal potting soil (like i did) keep them in shallower pots, and keep them dry.
adam - Those washy seeds are the easiest palm seeds ive germinated. No extra heat, nothing special cept room temps, and 50% germination after a month. I couldnt believe it.
I hope you have some luck with those paw paw seeds. ITs good to see people trying to bring it back down in southern ontario (part of its native range). Do not let the seeds dry out in any way shape or form, and dont forget to stratify them for a minimum of 60 days..
Naini Tal were easy to pop as well, just took a bit longer for me.
Godfryd- Musella are the only banana seeds i have no problems with. Ive rotted/failed to germinate about 10 kinds of musa/musella/ensete seeds over the years. The only other one that ive had success with is Musa Itinterans (burmese blue). I planted 5 seeds and got 2 strong, healthy plants. I managed to sprout a Musa sp (helens hybrid), but left it in the sun, dried it out and killed it :(.
Igor - Holy crap its a competition now eh 😀
I sprouted agave utahensis. Soaked them in lukewarm water for a day, sowed them ion the surface, and gave em bright light for 16 hours a day. They only took 4 or 5 days!!
Ive had horrible luck with yucca. 0 luck out of 5 batches of seed. I hope you have better luck then me

I'm interested to view your seed plantation
Igor will need a wide angle lens to show us those...wow.
Everybody's list has some really really interesting plants.
Can't wait to see them pop.
Remember the #1 tenet of seed growing:
don't let your kids near seedling flats...they rearrange labels 😡 😆
Happy Growing in the New Year everybody!
May your seeds be plump,
Watching them, sitting on your rump.

If you drink, don't drive. Don't even putt.
I've made the order but don't get them yet...My Mom is the expert of sawing tomatoes. So I hope she will be the succulents germination Queen. BTW only 30 minutes left before IT comes, the New year!

I'm suprised at how many varities everyone is planting. I would mix up all those differnt plants in no time.
I also collected and planted some Howea belmoreanaseeds. They are not very fresh but I am hopeful that a couple will germinate.

Pawpaw seeds keep really well in the fridge in a cup of water, for months. I plant up in 10" pots, maybe 8 seeds per pot, and put em in the warmest spot outside. Last year they did well in the vestibule of my hoop house. After last frost, I move them to a NORTH facing wall for two years for minimal contact with direct sun. Also 50% shade on top of that.
I have succeeded with over a dozen species of yucca. They all have their germination quirks. Very low germination rates with Y. torreii and none to sprout with recurvifolia as of yet. Beautiful rate with my locally collected Y. gloriosa and good germ rate with Y. schottii (and fast!).
