Easy, took approx a week in water.

Here's a Starfruit tree in the Tropics.

Great!!!! something else I can try growing. Where does one buy starfruit? I'll have to do a google search tomorrow.

Kent in Kansas
where it's cold in winter (always)
and hot in summer (usually)

In my area, one Safeway had it.
Probably any store that specializes in Produce.
Like the old green grocer stores.

Hope you find one Kent.
They taste like apples...yummy.

They grow very fast. It seems that many food markets no longer carry Star Fruit. Not one store around me sells them currently. A few years ago, most stores had them. Even Walmart used to sell them.

turtile, have you eaten one?

Strange they're not available in your area any more.
Obviously people didn't buy enough to make it worthwhile for the merchants.

Glad they grow fast.
That "starfruit tree" pic I posted was only one I saw.
The other pic looked more like a strong untrained vine that resembled wisteria.
Guess it's just a matter of how they're pruned when young.

Its one of my favorite fruits!

Most of them seemed to go to waste at the stores. I guess people were afraid to try them.

Here is a picture of one of seedlings I grew about 4 years ago (I forgot to take them inside and they died)

turtile, thanks for digging up that great picture.

Bummer that they died. 🙁

If you want to try again and can't find Starfruit, I'd send you some seeds once weather warms.
Just let me know.

Here's a cool website with pics, dedicated to growing exotic fruits.
Listed in alphabetical order.

Some bear fruit in as little as 2 years. 😀

Steve, the Rakum Palm fruits? Cool.
Have you ever eaten one? I've never seen them.

Many many sharp spines on that palm...you'll have to use a ladder versus climbing it. 😆 😆

Starfruit ... couple of weeks later
Getting yellowish, time for fertilizer.

They bloom FOUR TIMES a year! 😯
Full sun, acid soil (Miracid or oak leaf compost), good in containers,
damaged by flooding (what isn't?)
Shelter from hot dry winds.
Leaves fold at night or when pot is shaken.
Light fertilizer monthly 8-4-8+Magnesium, chelated iron + trace.

This one's moved along nicely this summer.
Time to repot.

Just in time as roots were the full length of the 9-1/2" plastic cup.
