OK. some people are using pine bark chips. Is that good too? Maybe 1-1-1 w/ potting sil, perlite, pb chips?
BTW, just found my second Gaussi seed popped. Those are REALLY good huh! Where'd those come from?

I tend to overwater so I try to use a light mix 😆

Awsome find buddy!!!
I THINK those cycad seeds I got from that guy in Tampa are actually Dioon seeds. Of the 18-20 I sowed a couple weeks ago, two have split and rooted.
Whenever you want me to come up, tell me.

One could hope for, they were harvested off the Palm and made it to me within a week. Have a few more orders I'm hoping to see before the really cold weather gets here.

Those Cycad seeds are doing good for you 8) It's usually a 1-3 month wait to see anything.

My schedule should be starting free up around the end of next week so I'll send you a PM or e-mail.....

Please get with me so we can do some trading and talk palms.
I am getting very depressed becasue it seems every time I go into the green room, something else looks like it's dying. Almost all my Robusta seedlings are dying, some of the Christmas palms that you gave me are dying (too bad too cause I absolutly LOVE them) and I think I have only 1 or 2 Filibusta seedlings left. I tryed potting the Robusta & Filibustas into bigger pots and I think I should have waited until spring maybe????
So I am still thinking that Cycads are my only way.

I have plenty more seedlings I can send your way..............Don't worry about losing a few, I have too.

See if you can figure out what the problem is, Check the soil temperature, ( those cheap aquarium thermometers work good for this) Then pop a couple out and see how wet your potting mixture is. Usually it is a combination of cold and damp soil that causes such a rapid decline.

Palms and Cycads go so well together......Grow Both 8)

Actually the soil is very dry and hard and clumpy. What I did was I watered really good and also crushed the sides of the pot so the soil would loosen. But that was the X-Mas palms. The Robustas, I just do not know 😳 .
Did you get a bunch of CIDP seeds today???????? I got my 50. So if you didn't, let me know and I'll give you the guys address.

Kansas

I am only guessing here, but it sounds like you are using the same type of soil I tried. I tried a sandy silt loam and had alot of trouble with it. Although the top of the pots to a depth of 2 inches was dry the remaining soil was wet. I ended up overwatering alot of seedlings. Just a thought.

Cal

Not the pot I was expecting........

Laaz,
Would you happen to know of any good mail order suppliers for CHC ?
What size is recommended for citrus? This is OT, but I have a 5' tall Navel in the GH that is just starting to flower, Would you think there any chance of it setting fruit?

Kansas,
Maybe too dry? I've had to use one of those moisture meters to help myself along. seem pretty well set on Phoenix's at the moment ( That is if I can keep the greenhouse above freezing for the next week 😆

Theres a very good chance it will hold some fruit. Citrus usually only hold 1% - 3 % of the fruit from bloom. Let me get ahold of one of my Mod's on the form, he has over 70 citrus growing in a greenhouse in Denver CO all in CHC. I'll give you the info once he gets back to me.

Thanks for the Info!
The one in the GH has plenty of blossoms so hopefully a couple will take, I rescued this one 2 years ago after being left out to freeze at a discount store. Happy that it's back in a healthy state 😆

I haven't had any experience with CHC & Palms, Will try a few and see how they grow.

Steve, Idid you ever get a bunch of Canary Island Date Palm seeds from that one guy? If not, I have them cooking and if/when I get some to pop, I'll give you some. Also, that great guy in K.C. was kind enough to give me over 20 seeds from that "McCurtain" Sabal that seeded after being in the ground in K.C. for two years. Those too are cooking and if I get them to pop, I'll get you some. I think they just might make it on that south side of your home. Didn't you put a Hystrix there????Hows it doing??
