I've had Sabal minor germinating all winter 8)
Found a couple twin germinations in the last batch,

Steve

very cool Steve. Your camera (and you) take great pictures. I started a whole bunch of sabal minors in a community pot so not sure if I have any twins. Is this a common occurrence or a mutation of some kind?

Kent in Kansas
where it's cold in winter (always)
and hot in summer (usually)

Kent,

Really have no idea how common, (or what), these are ? 😀
I think all Palm seeds have the potential of three embryos, just haven't seen it with Sabals till now.

Potted them up separately to see what happens...........

Super, well done.

In the second pic, did the two radicles join to become a single radicle?

I like seeing these pictures (since I'll never be successful at it...just nice to know).

Barb,

I'm thinking the two radicles just grew together, might be interesting to see if two plants develop.

Thanks for the comments, you might want to try a few Sabal seeds. ( a little moisture & warmth and you'll have more Palms than you know what to do with 😀

Yes, I'll watch what happens there...

Sabal seeds? Nope, I'm "off" germinating for a while.
Thankfully I don't recall how much money I spent on seeds that went into my soilmix pile after 7 months.

😕

They're never separated later on, though? It then produces a palm with two stems?

So Sabal is a remote germinator?

Barb,

Once the seed is depleted, will have two identical plants that can be separated.

Sabal minor is a remote germinator, this photo shows some of the stages.

(once the seed is exhausted, the part that connects the seed to the Palm, (cotyledonary petiole), will detach itself)

Thanks Steve for that descriptive pic.
I had forgotten that the seed had to be spent first...(duh on my part...sorry).

Barb,

I've been potting up about 20-30 S.minor seeds every week, all winter long................
Plenty of opportunity to take photos of what's normally going on under the soil.

Don't make the mistake of assuming I know what I'm talking about 😆

Every week? wow.
You're the germination king, Steve. 😀

Germination rate = you know what you're talking about!
