This is one of 50 seeds I've been trying to germinate for 4 weeks or so.
Would like your opinion.
Was it viable? or Dead? My only experience with palm seeds is that they DON'T germinate! 👿
Stuff in the middle was brown and dryish, like peat moss, and the little embryo at the roundest end--while moist--doesn't seem to be doing anything.

If you drink, don't drive. Don't even putt.
Barb,
The endosperm is abundant & a good color. The embryo also seems well developed.
In my opinion, a good seed! (well, it was........... 😆
I still think you will get a good germination % out of this batch 8)

But what's all the brown fibrey stuff in the middle?
The stuff that's lying on the paper towel was scraped out of the middle "hole".
Seed anatomy pics don't show a depression--or hole--in the middle.
Your comments are very encouraging! Thank you.
At four weeks, my patience is in the red zone. 😐
Husband still has all his fingers after cutting it on the bandsaw.

I'll bet you are a few weeks away from germination. Don't give up and keep the faith. Several years ago I had 4 of 5 germinate within 2 months. You're close.

Did you go crazy too while waiting? 😆
4 of 5 germinate within 2 months
and they lived, right?
Thanks Kent.

Barb,
That void is probably just something left over from when the seed formed. Here's a cross section of a Bismarckia, it has a number of ridges.

Great pic of inside of a Bizzie seed.
I never got that far with my Bizzie seed(s) last year after pounding them with a hammer.
So that brown stuff serves no purpose for development of embryo.
Thanks!
I hope that was an old pic! 😯

I have a bunch of sabal minors, musa velutina, and a few capitata seeds that I planted on 12/9, nothing yet.
I have sabal louisiana's soaking along with some fortunei's and sabal etonia. It seems like a long process all
ready and nothing has even happened yet. I'll be better when they start to sprout.
Keep the faith Barb!
Bill
How are you keeping seeds warm? a heat mat?
My heat mat doesn't seem very warm but it should help in closed containers.
The nearby woodstove is keeping the remainder at about 80 to 90 F, a few times it's been 100F.
Waiting is the toughest part.
I couldn't resist cutting one in half to have a look. 😆
