oppalm,
Do you have a outside thermometer inside your hut or down in with your leaves?
I'm thinking about going to walmart and buy me a couple cheap outside thermometers and stick inside next to my plam
and bananas,so I can monoter the temps on those cold nights.

I just looked this palm up as an adult, these are a really prettty palm, with a huge crown!
Your seedlings are looking great!
From germination until now when pic was taken, how much time has passed,so I can get a time on how fast these grow?
Thanks
Don
Received these the last week in October, Half were already germinated and the others within a few days. The only caution with these is not to let them dry out too much, other than that it's fairly routine culture to keep them happy 8)

Is there a more common name for these,I haven't heard or seen of these before, but then I haven't been into plams until recently.
Looks as those will be a fat grower too!
I have just heard these referred as Pigafetta's ~ Some of the local names do translate to "Wanga Palm" etc.
Ortanique seems to have a good supply of seed , RPS also has these listed.

These have just about doubled in size!!!
Days are getting longer now,and I expect some new growth on just about everything!!!
tropicman - was just reading through this post again and saw you asked me a question in Jan 07 about an outside thermometer. I do have a wireless thermometer in my palm hut and the base units inside the house. It shows me the temp inside the hut and also keeps a record of the minimum and maximum for a 24 hour period. I picked two of these thermometers up at the ACE Hardware store on their closeout table. Paid $5 for each. They are nice to have.
Kent in Kansas
where it's cold in winter (always)
and hot in summer (usually)

$5 bucks,what a steal!!!!
I have 3 in use, check them every morning and every evening, great tool to use,and takes a lot of worrying out of the way as well!!
Out of the three,
One in the house,
Two in the GH, (The one behind received a little too much sun but I'm sure it will catch up)
