This is one I have been trying to grow for a while now, for anyone attempting these - a couple things to keep in mind.

* Seeds must never be allowed to dry out, they must be kept moist from the time they are harvested till germination.

* Anything below 15C can be fatal to the Palm.

Needless to say an indoor Palm 8)

Some more info ----> http://www.pacsoa.org.au/palms/Cyrtostachys/renda.html

With fresh seed, first germination in about a month with bottom heat. ( sorry about the picture quality, just a quick photo before potting up)

Hey Steve - you amaze me with the seeds you germinate. You are the man (the seed sproutin' man). How's your place doing - you got lots of palms outside this time of year? I have a pretty good year going in my yard, I need to get some pictures posted. Got lots of rabbits this year for some reason, so I have to keep everything off the ground. It's my yard and the damn rabbits control it. I am going to buy stock in a chicken wire company and then go out and buy several 100 feet of the stuff to put around the inside of my fence to keep the rabbits out.

where it's cold in winter (always)
and hot in summer (usually)

Kent ~ Bit a rough start with the weather but things are settling down now...was able to get a few more things in the ground ( and everything out of the dining room 🙂

Good luck with the rabbits! The squirrels have taken an interest in my stuff this year......

Your're right Barb! Some people consider growing Palms here to be a "Symptom" of a larger problem 😐 😆

Don ~ This is one seed out of maybe 60 ….so probably just luck so far.

Do you have your Sago outside ? Might just be the night temps that are slowing it down. Up here everything in the GH is growing now and the in ground Cycads are just starting up.

Do you have any pollen left from your Cat Palm? ( pretty sure I have a female ).
One more question, The Ti plants you gave me……What size pots do you use, and how large do they get? 😆

Haven't had much luck with these past the seedling stage.

Another batch and ready to try again,

Some are planted completely submerged,

Others semi aquatic,

The rest are in soil in various spots, if anything works, I'll post the results 😀

Steve,
You've hit all the seedling growing techniques possible; one or more must make it.
Looking forward to seeing the lovely red stems.
Good luck with them.

Barb, The ones in the water should stay above 60*F and be happy, maybe i should have tried this in the spring instead of the start of winter 😀

Don, Thanks!
I'll keep my fingers crossed, hoping to have a spare one to send your way in the spring 8)
